The concept and idea of building a purpose built Martial Arts
training hall (Dojo) in the City of Traralgon was first discussed
among Traralgon Judo Club members in the mid 90's. After many years
of discussing and proposing different concepts, locations, joint
ventures, and commercial models, the idea was no closer to reality.
Finally in 2005 a site was agreed on and the process of getting
approvals and permits started. It wasn't till October 2006 after
battling objections and planning constraints that a VCAT appeal
ruled in our favor that fabrication works start. With site
construction starting in January 2007. About 85% of construction
work has been completed on weekends by Instructors and students of
both the Judo Club and Karate Dojo. After 30 years of training in a
tin shed with no windows, no toilets, stone cold in winter, like a
oven in summer, to say we are all looking forward to the Dojo being
completed is a understatement. Construction should be completed some
time in the second half of 2007.

This picture was taken the morning of the Traralgon Creek flooding
in June 2007. The Traralgon Creek flooded along with many other
rivers in the greater Gippsland area after heavy rainfalls between
150mm and 250mm.
The wet winter has slowed down construction works that are
predominantly undertaken on weekends. Expected opening of the Dojo
will hopefully be late this year.

Construction works as at 20th January 2008 are progressing well. With
the floor in and the internal fit out 65% complete the Dojo should
be completed in the next 3-4 weeks (mid Feb). Progress over the past
3-4 months has been slow, but with all works being completed
after hours and mostly on a voluntary basis with Judoka & Karateka from the Traralgon Dojo's
helping I believe we have done very well. To everyone who has given
up there time to work on the construction of the Dojo your help has
been very much appreciated.
